The Alexander Technique helps us to become more balanced and co-ordinated. As this body awareness improves we can quickly apply this to our work situation. One vital aspect is learning centred support which has a freeing effect on all our joints and muscles, we will then use less tension in standing or sitting and this can also affect the quality and tone of our voice.
In lessons we would spend time getting you in centred support so you are able to stand or sit with little tension, and move with greater freedom and fluidity. When presenting we don’t want to fix ourselves, I will encourage you to think in activity, there should always be the possibility of movement. You will feel more grounded and connected to both your environment and audience. You can learn not to rush ahead of yourself and present in such a way your listeners will enjoy.
These are a few comments from my pupils:
”I have been having Alexander lessons for some years, having learnt more about support with Mark I feel much more grounded when giving presentations, it has really helped”.
Kate
“I used to get really angry at work but Alexander Technique has taught me not to react so negatively and I simply do not get angry. Colleagues have noticed and I especially find the work useful when I have to give presentations.”
Vanessa
“My coach at work suggested I do some Alexander work to help with my posture which has improved no end.”
Jo
This week Jo came to her lesson very excited. "I was so excited this week I nearly phoned you" she said. "Everything has clicked into place, I feel more supported and upright and can sit upright with little effort and best of all my coach at work was really impressed. Also I feel more confident when doing presentations."
Jo certainly looks different, much more aligned and comfortable in her body, but the most important thing is how she is feeling about herself.
Want to feel more confident in presentations? Why not try an introductory session.
