THIS IS A VERY PRACTICAL WORKSHOP:
We focus on ‘Body mapping’, the process of constructively applying an understanding of anatomy, to improve how we move. The body map is one’s self-representation in one’s own brain. If the body map is accurate, movement is good, if not accurate movement maybe inefficient and injury-producing. In Body Mapping, we learn through self-observation and self-inquiry. Getting clear on the architecture of the total mind-body-breathing mechanism can eliminate tension, freeing your body which is very empowering.
(Body mapping is a phrase coined by Barbara Conable, an Alexander Technique practitioner and co author with her husband Bill of “What every musician needs to know about their body” and “Move well and avoid injury” and several books on movement)
We will also look into ALEXANDER’S MAIN DISCOVERY – If you have had Alexander Technique sessions before you might know what this is. I don’t want to give too much away but if we apply this discovery to ourselves it can really help the way we stand, sit work and play with a sense of ease.
WE MAY DISCOVER WE CAN WALK WITH LESS TENSION. IS WALKING A MOVEMENT OF THE LEGS OR THE WHOLE OF US?
WE WILL LOOK INTO WHAT A SLOUCH REALLY MEANS – NO NEED TO SIT UP STRAIGHT OR SLOUCH.
WE WILL EXPLORE THE PELVIS AT IT’S ROLE IN SITTING AND MOVEMENT AND HOW IT MAY EFFECT OUR BACKS.
THIS WILL NOT BE JUST ABOUT LOOKING AT SKELETAL CHARTS BUT WILL INCLUDE SOME FUN EXPLORATIONS.
WORKSHOP IS USUALLY 4 HOURS DURATION WITH A BREAK.
